i am writing
:
a lot less than I wish I was. These are vignettes, mostly short form writing, some poetry, some memories, some made up, some not.
I find the act of writing soothing. I only use a fountain pen to write notes, even grocery lists.

this week...
i am pinning/tumbling/redditing/discording
snippets I find online, bits and bobs curated from from my pinterest, my tumblr, my relatively private social media. If I have shared my pinterest with you then I probably like you quite a lot, the rest is private.

this week...

i am listening
to a pretty wide range of music, podcasts.
Music has been a part of my life since I was a child. I studied theory of music, piano and classical guitar to a relatively advanced level. I played bass guitar in a band - the usual stuff. One of the greatest regrets of my life is giving up classical guitar.
I studied music at school under Peter Batley, here is a link to his SoundCloud with "a compilation of short, melodic piano pieces, each in a different key, a total of 24. "I wrote them so that the students could experience and not be afraid of, music in the "more exotic" keys." Peter is a wonderful teacher, educator, and exceptionally talented composer.
I continued studying classical guitar under Fritz Buss, himself a student of Narciso Yepes. Fritz was a strict, patient and gifted teacher. He somehow always knew when I had not practised my requisite four hours per day. On the day I told him I was giving up guitar, he told me to sit down, he took my guitar and played for me for half an hour, at the end he only said, "you could be a master, you giving up is a great loss". I have played twice since then. Once for my children, and once... well that's a longer story.

always...
i am daydreaming
of things I want, products that inspire me, designs, fabric, fonts, not fashion, but style, cars, boats, pens, furniture, knives, architecture. I am a keen sailor, windsurfer and amateur rally driver. Maybe if I'd been born a little later, I would have pursued my love of racing, maybe not. I don't just love fast cars, I really love fast cars.
Sail always has right of way though.
I am as thrilled by speed as I am by silk, as I am by sans serif, as I am by sails, as I am by sense, as I am by space, as I am by spaces, as I am by...

this week....
i am an aesthete
which is a fancy word for appreciator of art. I think fancy words are art as well. I came to art through my mother, and then after being forced to choose art as a subject because I got kicked out of French for correcting the teacher. (I was a spuriously precocious child).
I have no artistic talent. I have a deep love for art and art history.
I came to Rodin through Camille Claudel, I came to Jacques-Henri Lartigue through Renée Perle. I wanted to be a muse when I was a teenager. I wanted to be fascinating. With no talent and little beauty, instead, I became fascinated. I came to Basquiat through Warhol.
This led to a life-long passion for so many artistic movements.
My passion (obsession?) lies with the Bauhaus movement, more especially the expressionist Wassily Kandinsky.
i am in love
this week...
but my first love was Sir Stirling Moss, closely followed by Iggy Pop, Steve McQueen, Nick Cave, Marlon Brando, Jane Birkin, Ryan Reynolds, Jackie Kennedy, Renee Perle, Juliette Lewis, Helen Mirren, Christy Turlington, Winona Rider, Prince...
The list changes all the time.
My love for Stirling Moss is for always.
i am writing
(again)
longer form writing, essays, stories, fantasies, horrors, therapy, and monsters that hide under the bed.
