Meidjie - Moses Kottler

I have a visceral reaction to this sculpture every time I visit the Johannesburg Art Gallery. But that I mean, I cry. I don't know why she moves me so.

"Meidjie is widely regarded as one of Kottler’s most lyrical and well-executed sculptures. Made and cast in 1926, this delicate figurine of a young woman was done at a time when Kottler was coming into his own in his chosen medium of sculpture, having decided to dedicate himself to the medium only in 1924."
